I hope someone can help.
My Mum is looking for the poem ' William the conqueror, 1066 said to his captains'etc etc.
I have searched the internet for nearly 4 hours but I can't find out who wrote it or the rest of the poem.
She would love to get a copy.
If anyone knows anything about it please let me know.
There is a monologue entitled 'The Battle of Hastings' - but that doesn't contain those words. I wonder if the archives in Hastings could help? I should imagine their website is www.hastings.org.uk.
Just a shot in the dark but the quote could be from 1066 and All That which was a history spoof published in the 1930s and written by W.C. Seller and R J. Yeatman and was also done as a musical on stage by Reginald Arkell which might be where these lines came from.
I am sure your local library would be able to get a copy for you to check.
